• There might be delays in the application processing for the time being. 
• Those who are onshore and whose visas are about to expire should obtain expert guidance to ensure that they remain lawful in Australia.

What is a Northern Territory Nomination?

The government of Australia’s Northern Territory (NT) nominates you for a skilled visa if:

• You fulfill the Australian government’s standard requirements.
• You meet the NT Government’s nomination eligibility requirements.
• You commit to living and working in the territory in your skilled occupation for at least three years after receiving your visa.

Skilled Visas for Northern Territory Nominations 2024-25

You can apply for Northern Territory nominations for the 2024-25 program year via these two visas:

Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

This is a permanent visa, With this visa,  you can live or work in Australia for an indefinite amount of time. To be eligible for this visa, you must be nominated by an Australian state or territory, such as the Northern Territory in this case. Once you are nominated for a 190 visa, you are required to live and work in the Northern Territory for approximately three years.

Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)

This is a temporary visa. With this visa, you can live, work, and study in Australia for up to five years. You can also add your dependent family members. You must be nominated by an Australian state or territory government to be eligible for this visa, similar to 190. However, after the grant of a 491 visa, you are required to reside in the state for at least three years. After that, you can apply for PR.

Northern Territory Nominations 2024-25 Eligibility Criteria

You have to meet the following eligibility requirements before applying for visa nominations 2024-25:

• You must be under 45 years of age at the time of nomination to apply for both 190 and 491 visas.
• You must have obtained a positive skills assessment from an authorized Australian body for your nominated skilled occupation. 
• You must be competent in the English language or have scored 6.0 in the IELTS test.
• You must have scored at least 65 points on your points-based system test.

In addition to these requirements, you will have to meet the following NT Government requirements.

NT Government Nomination Requirements

If you are onshore, you will not be eligible for Northern Territory nominations in the following cases:

• If you or any of your dependents are currently living interstate.
• If you or any of your dependents are on a student visa and have not completed studies at a Northern Territory institute.
• If the NT has already nominated you for a subclass 489 or 491 visa, you are not eligible for a subclass 190 nomination.

If you are offshore, you will only be nominated for subclass 491. To be eligible for the NT 491 nomination, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must have work experience of at least two years in your nominated occupation in the last five years.
• You must be committed to living and working in the Northern Territory. 
• You must be financially stable enough to support yourself in the NT.
