THE World University Rankings 2023

Two Australian universities rank in the top 50 global universities and seven Australian institutions rank in the top 100 global universities according to the Times Higher Education’s, THE World University Rankings 2023.

Times Higher Education is one of the largest listings in the 19-year history of the World University Rankings (WUR). It has ranked 1,799 universities in 2023 (137 more than last year).

How These Rankings are assessed?

As part of its assessment of a university’s quality, the World University Rankings analyzes 15.5 million research publications, 121 million citations, and more than 40,000 responses to an academic reputation survey, as well as hundreds of thousands of additional data points such as:

  • Environment for teaching,
  • From a global perspective,
  • Each university’s industry connections.

Phil Baty, Chief Knowledge Officer at Times Higher Education said:

This year, for the first time… Oceania has overtaken North America to enjoy the distinction of the highest average overall score.

The region’s strong academic reputation and strong results in research impact, which includes Australia, are largely due to the region’s strong research impact.
