Federal Budget 2022 – New Announcements by Labor Government!

On 25 October 2022, the Labor Government elected in May 2022 presented its first budget. Budget 2022 included few immigration-related announcements. Some of those announcements had already been made previously.

Announcements in Federal Budget 2022

Announcements which have already been made in the Federal budget 2022 include:

  • 195,000 places available for permanent migration
  • An additional $42.2 million in funding will be added to Australia’s permanent migration program to speed up visa processing, reduce visa backlogs, and provide opportunities for high-skilled migrants
  • To 30 June 2023, extended relaxation for Student Visa and secondary Training Visa holders
  • The processing of NZ Stream Skilled Independent Visa applications and offshore skilled migration applications will be prioritized.

 

Recent Announcements in Federal Budget 2022

Here’re the latest announcements by the Labor Party in its first Federal Budget 2022.

  • In 2022–23, 500 additional places will be available in the aged care training pathway for Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme participants.
  • Besides the existing permanent migration program, a new Pacific Engagement Visa will be introduced. Under this visa, more than 3,000 permanent migration places will be available for people from Timor-Leste and Pacific Island countries.
  • Funding for 3 year Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visas for Ukrainians and longer access to Medicare for Ukrainians for 12 months. All immediate family members who hold a Bridging Visa E are included.
  • The Ukrainian Community and Settlement Support Program will receive $0.6 million in additional funding in 2022–23.
  • International teams, officials, and official carers participating in the Virtus Oceania Asia Games 2022 will not be charged for visa application fees.
