WA Relaxes Visa Conditions for Skilled Workers – Migration Program 2022-23!

Western Australia (WA) has updated its migration program for 2022-23. It has removed further English requirements for managerial and professional occupations. As WA relaxes visa conditions for skilled workers. It has decreased the amount of money applicants must show as sufficient funds.

 

Applicants for skilled visas are now required to have employment contract of 6 months. Western Australia has been running different campaigns to get skilled workers in key industries. These industries include manufacturing, healthcare, building and construction, tourism and agriculture.

Highlights of WA Relaxes Visa Conditions for Skilled Workers!

  • For its migration program 2022–23, Western Australia has received 8,140 places. In comparison to last year, there are 4,950 more places.
  • A 60% increase has been made in the number of occupations eligible for skilled migration by the state government.
  • As part of the temporary measures, the $200 application fee has been waived.

 

On Sunday, the WA government announced new updates to its migration program for 2022-23. The purpose is to provide skilled workers for the job market and the state’s economy. Additionally, Western Australia has introduced a few temporary measures. It includes a waiver of the $200 application fee.

 

For the program year, the state has reduced the amount of money applicants must show. Their goal is to attract more skilled workers in this way. It has eliminated additional conditions for English language for professional and manager occupations. It has also reduced requirements for work experience.

 

More Occupations for Skilled Migration!

Western Australia has increased around 60% of occupations eligible for skilled migration. In total, 276 occupations are included in the list, including 46 health occupations.

 

The state government said:

Regional skill needs are being supported with 33 of the new occupations aligning with four current Designated Area Migration Agreements in place in WA regions to respond to unique regional economic and labour market conditions.

 

McGowan government also introduced a new Skilled Migrant Employment Register in July. It is to link skilled migrants with state jobs.  WA relaxes visa conditions for skilled workers in the state. It’s expected that changes will be made to the state’s skilled migration pathway soon within the next month.

Number of Places Allocated for Western Australia

The announcement has been made. According to it, a greater number of places have been allocated to the state in the Commonwealth Government’s State Nominated Migration Program. WA secured 8,140 places for 2022-23. There’re 4,950 more places compared to the last year. Also, it’s the 3rd highest allocation after Victoria and New South Wales.

 

To attract skilled workers in certain industries, Western Australia has been running different campaigns. These industries involve manufacturing, healthcare, building and construction, tourism and agriculture.

 

According to Premier McGowan:

The changes to the State Nominated Migration Program will build on our work to boost skilled migration in areas of high demand by making migration to WA easier.

 

He further added:

We have been successful in advocating for WA’s needs nationally, and the Australian Jobs and Skills Summit will give me further opportunity to address issues managed by the Commonwealth Government.

 

Minister of Education and Training, Sue Ellery stated:

These latest changes are about making it easier for people to migrate to WA on skilled migration visas.

 

Adding to that:

They are targeted changes that are focused on attracting more skilled migrants to the state in the short-term, and will be reviewed as the State’s skillschallenges ease.
