According to the new minister, Andrew Giles:

Processing outstanding visa applications is a priority for the Australian government. I have raised my concerns with the current state of visa processing with the Department of Home Affairs.

He further added:

We are committed to ensuring that visa applications are processed in a timely manner.

 

In his explanation, the previous government didn’t provide any stats or data on the number of skilled worker visa applications. Though, the number of temporary skilled visa holders has dropped in Australia. In 2014, Australia had 195,000 skilled visa holders. These skilled visa holders have fallen from 195,000 to 96,000 in 2022.

Andrew McKellar on Fast-Track Visa Applications

The chief executive of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Andrew McKellar, said businesses in Australia were dealing with extended visa processing for skilled migrants. According to Andrew McKellar, more resources are required to decrease long visa processing times.

 

Andrew McKellar stated:

The current delays just aren’t good enough when so many businesses are left without staff and therefore can’t afford to stay open.

 

To make the skilled migration system more accessible and responsible, we need to open employer sponsored migration up to all skilled occupations.
