Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of New South Wales (NSW) has officially announced to extend Greater Sydney’s lockdown until the end of August 2021.
This decision has been made due to the rising cases of the Covid-19 Pandemic. As there’re 177 new cases that have been recorded in the last 24 hours in New South Wales (NSW) and around 46 infectious people have been found in the community. Premier of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian, has emphasized the issue of rising Sydney Covid cases and announced new rules to control the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
This lockdown will be extended to further four weeks and is expected to end on the 28th of August. The Government of NSW has also changed rules for shopping, construction and traveling for work purposes. The Sydney covid cases are increasing day by day even after the lockdown. Therefore, the lockdown has been extended for 4 weeks.
Statement by NSW Premier on Sydney Covid Updates
Premier of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian, has given her statement on the increasing cases of Coronavirus in New South Wales (NSW). She said,
“In the last few days, it would have not been possible for us to get out of lockdown tomorrow or Friday and given also the advice, it would not have been realistic for the NSW government to make a decision in the next two weeks given where we are today.”
Addition of Three Local Government Associations (LGAs)
There’re three more Local Government Associations that have been added to the list of high-risk regions of Covid-19 transmission in Australia. They include local government areas of Parramatta, Georges River and Campbelltown. Ms. Gladys Berejiklian added that,
“If you live in those three local government areas, you are not allowed to leave those areas for work unless its in those critical industries that we’ve identified.”
Furthermore, the non-occupied construction activities will continue outside of the 8 local government regions of Australia which are considered high-risk.
Rules for Greater Sydney’s Lockdown
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced the rules for Greater Sydney’s lockdown. These rules consist of,
- Single Bubble
- Face to Face Learning of 12 Year Students
- Recommencement of Construction
These rules aim to stop the spread of Sydney covid cases and prevent people from getting infected. The details of these rules are below.
Announcement of Single Bubble
The Government of New South Wales has announced the allowance of ‘Single Bubble’ for people residing in the country on their own. Therefore if somebody is living in Australia by himself so he can nominate a person who’ll be allowed to visit him in New South Wales (NSW).
Ms. Berejiklian has stated that,
“If you have been living by yourself, you are allowed to nominate one person that is allowed to visit you but it has to be the same person.”
Restrictions on Schools for Sydney Covid Cases
The Greater Sydney’s lockdown will be implemented for 4 more weeks. Schools will also be closed during this period of lockdown. However, students in the 12th year will get back to school after getting vaccinated. New South Wales Premier, Ms. Gladys Berejiklian, has indicated that the students of 12 year can return to schools from the 16th of August 2021. She added that students of 12 year will be subjected to the Pfizer Vaccination Program.
Ms. Gladys Berejiklian said,
“In the next four weeks, children will need to be home-schooled, except for year 12.”
Recommencement of Construction
Construction work can be resumed outside the eight Local Government Associations (LGAs) which are labeled high-risk for the Covid-19 Pandemic. Employees who work in those LGAs will not be allowed to leave for work.
There’ll be a limit for smaller projects such as two trade persons are allowed to work for indoor services. While five workers are allowed to work for outdoor construction services. However, construction work will only be possible if it’s possible and convenient for residents to leave the area.
Furthermore, there’ll be contactless tradies which mean tradies come to the premise and start working if they don’t have any contact with the residents. All these steps are being taken to stop the spread of Sydney covid cases in the country.
AstraZeneca Vaccine Demand
A huge number of people have been vaccinated by the AstraZeneca in New South Wales. According to NSW Premier, Ms. Gladys Berejiklian, the demand for the AstraZeneca vaccine has gone through the roof in New South Wales.
In her recent statement, she said that,
“We know that having more vaccines in arms doesn’t just protect the individual but slows the spread and we know that’s critical moving forward.”
She also added that,
“We can’t open up and live freely unless we have the number close to zero or unless we have high rates of vaccination.”
