Requirements of Temporary skilled shortage visa & its skill assessment

Australia welcomes a large number of international students and skilled migrants every year. These international students can stay in Australia until the completion of their enrolled courses. But what if one wants to gain experience in an Australian workspace? What if one wants to peruse his or her career in Australia? For this one needs an Temporary skilled shortage visa (Australian skilled visa) that allows him or her to work in Australia. Australian skilled visas also allow skilled people from all around the globe who want to come to Australia to build a career in their relevant field.

 

But to acquire these visas one has to go through a certain process and has to fulfil some conditions. This makes him or her eligible to apply for Australian skilled visas like subclass 189 visa, subclass 186 visa, etc. these visas can be temporary or permanent and all their condition varies accordingly. Also, every Australian skilled visa has a corresponding occupational list. It is mandatory for the applicant of a certain skilled visa to belong to an occupation that is listed in the relevant occupational list. Many skilled visas also require skill assessment.

 

These assessments show whether the candidate has required skilled set or talent in his nominated skill or not. Temporary skill shortage visa subclass 482 is a very famous Australian skilled visa. In this article, we will talk about this skilled visa and skill assessment required for this visa.

 

What is TSS Visa (Temporary skilled shortage visa) subclass 482?

TSS visa subclass 482 is a visa subclass through which employers in Australia can employ people from overseas for a position they are offering. This is a temporary visa that allows its holder to live and work in Australia for a temporary period. This visa subclass comes with a condition that employer should not be able to find the right talent in Australia for the position he or she is offering. There are three different streams of this visa. These streams are discussed as below

 

Short-term stream

This visa stream allows the employer in Australia to employ people whose occupations are listed in the short-term occupational list. The time granted in Australia under this visa stream is 2-4 years. To be eligible for this visa one has to have certain work experience. Also, he or she must get their skill assessed from a relevant authority. Health and character requirements should also be satisfied.

 

Medium-term stream

This visa stream allows the employer in Australia to employ people whose occupations are listed in the medium-term or long-term occupational list. The time granted in Australia under this visa stream is 4 years. To be eligible for this visa one has to have certain work experience. Also, he or she must get their skill assessed from a relevant authority. Health and character requirements should also be satisfied.

 

Labour agreement stream

This visa steam allows the employer who has a valid labour agreement with the Department of Home Affairs to employ people from overseas according to the terms of a labor agreement. Its eligibility criteria depend upon the terms and conditions of the labor agreement.

 

Skills Assessment

To apply for a temporary skill shortage visa skill assessment is required. Skill assessment should be conducted by a certified authority. TRA (trade recognition Australia) conducts TSS skill assessment. This assessment determines that if the candidate has required capabilities and skills in his or her occupation.

 

This assessment has two categories:

  • Applicants who don’t have an Australian qualification
  • Applicants who have Australian VET qualification or Australian occupational license

 

What is the application process of TSS SKILL assessment?

For category one (Applicants who don’t have Australian qualification):

The application process for TSS skill assessment has four steps. In the first step, one has to choose a TRA authorized assessor. Then secondly all the relevant documents that are degrees, certificate of qualification, work experience certificate, etc. have to be submitted. Your assigned RTO will decide that you have required skills in your nominated occupation or not based on your provided documents.

 

After this comes technical assessment in your skills in your nominated occupation will be assessed by a qualified person trough many ways like conducting one on one interviews with you, gathering information from your previous employers or by actually making you demonstrate your skills. In the last step, the outcome of the assessment is received. If it’s positive it can be used in your TSS visa application.

 

For category two (Applicants who have Australian VET qualification or Australian occupational license):

Initially, one has to choose a TRA authorized assessor. Then all the relevant documents suggested by the assessor such as degrees, certificate of qualification, work experience certificate, etc. has to be submitted. The applicant will move to the next step if the RTO decides that the applicant has required skills in his or her nominated occupation or not based on their provided documents.

 

After this comes technical assessment in your skills in your nominated occupation will be assessed by a qualified person trough many ways like conducting one on one interviews with you, gathering information from your previous employers or by actually making you demonstrate your skills. Finally, the outcome will be provided. In the case of a positive outcome, one can use the assessment result in TSS visa application
