Three New Skilled Regional Provisional Visas:

According to the Migration Amendment 2019, three new visas are going to be introduced:

 

1. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa – Subclass 491:

This is a points-tested skilled visa for skilled applicants who are sponsored by the State or Territory government or a family member living in a designated regional area. However, this new visa will close the Skilled Regional Provisional Visa – Subclass 489.

 

In other words, subclass 489 will be superseded by a subclass 491 from November 16, 2019.

 

2. Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa – Subclass 494:

This visa is an enhanced form of Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa – Subclass 187. Eligible Australian employers can sponsor a skilled applicant to meet the shortage of skill in regional Australia. However, this visa will close the Subclass 187 except for some transitional cohorts.

 

3. Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa – Subclass 191:

This is a permanent visa for skilled workers and professionals who hold either Subclass 491 or Subclass 494. However, this visa will be commenced on November 16, 2022. 4. STEM Qualifications

10 additional points for applicants who have a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) qualifications.

 

5. Spouse or De facto Partner with Competent English

5 additional points for applicants who have a spouse or de facto partner with competent English.

 

6. No Spouse or De facto Partner

1o additional points for applicants who do not have a spouse or de facto partner.
