Important Update: 3 Million New Visas Processed by the Australian Government!

The Minister of Immigration, Citizenship, and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles, in his Committee for Economic Development of Australia’s inaugural migration conference, has stated that over 3 million visas have been approved since 1 June.

It is great news as the 3 million new visas processed by the Australian Government will help to reduce the backlog of applications. This will make it easier for people to get their visas processed faster.

There were almost one million visas on the backlog at one point, but that number today is reduced to 755,000, and 300 extra visa processing staff have been hired.

Minister Andrew Giles’ Words on 3 Million New Visas Processed

Minister Andrew Giles said today that the Government was on track for a backlog of around 600,000 by the end of the year.

He said

Delivering on our commitment to provide certainty to businesses and families – our commitment to provide certainty to businesses and families.

He further stated that

We have adjusted policy settings to reflect changed circumstances – something which should have started well before we were elected.

This is great news for those who have been waiting for their visa applications to be processed, as it means that the wait time will be drastically reduced considering 3 million new visas processed in a short time period.

Minister Andrew Giles also said that

“We have automated straightforward tasks to free up staff to work on more complex visa applications – bread and butter work of a responsible government.”

Minister Giles also spoke to the Government’s efforts to simplify the prioritization system, stating that he expects all skilled visas to be processed faster as a result.

The complexity of the previous prioritization system was adding up to 45 minutes per application for some skilled visas. I witnessed staff in triage teams sorting visas into different groups instead of making decisions.

In the end, Minister Andrew Giles informed us that

If we prioritize everyone, we prioritize no one.
