The objective of attracting skilled migrants and international students to WA is:

  • Part of McGowan Government’s $195 million Reconnect WA program
  • Support Western Australia’s pipeline of skilled workers in priority industry areas to build a stronger future.

 

The McGowan Government is all set to introduce new policies to attract skilled migrants and international students to WA. The purpose is to address the skills shortage in Western Australia.

 

More Occupations in Graduate Occupation List (GOL)

Under the State Government’s $195 million Reconnect WA strategy, around 194 occupations are now available on the Graduate Occupation List (GOl). WA welcomes skilled migrants and international students by bringing the total number of occupations to 331 to encourage them to move to Western Australia.

 

As the Graduate Occupation List (GOL) has been expanded. So, it’ll attract a wide range of skills that fit with the existing and future workforce requirements of the State. Under the skilled migration pathway, international students who graduate in WA will also have the option to apply for PR in Australia.

 

The State Government is prioritizing those applicants who reside in Western Australia and Australia. Likewise, it has broadened the criteria for skilled migration. It’ll allow the overseas applicants to apply for Western Australia State nomination.

 

Moreover, these changes will improve the international education sector in WA. The changes will increase the pool of skilled workers in priority areas in Western Australia. Following industry consultation at the Perth and Regional Skills Summits, the new initiatives also support strategies to tackle skills shortages.
