He supports the fairer visa processing system for Partner and Parent Visas for migrants.

Comments by Mr. Julian Hill on Visa Processing Time

Mr. Julian Hill made the remarks during a recent interview with SBS Hindi at the SBS Election Exchange. The event took place at the Dandenong Market in Victoria.

Mr. Hill stated that:

If you are from the United States, Germany or Western Europe it takes five to seven months to get a partner visa for your wife or husband, if you are from somewhere like India it takes a lot longer than that and indeed if you are from parts of the Middle East it takes four years on average, that’s discrimination.

According to him:

Labor abolished the White Australia Policy in the 1970s laying the foundations for multicultural Australia we see today, and we are committed to a fairer visa processing system.

Key Points of Fairer Visa Processing System

Here’re the major points of a fairer visa processing system by the labor member for Bruce, Mr. Julian Hill.

He believes:

Partner Visa Processing System

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship revealed that the number of on-hand Partner Visa applications decreased by 41% in the past 18 months. Consequently, processing times for many Partner Visa applications have been reduced.

52.1% of finalized applications were lodged within the previous 12 months on 31 March 2022, compared to 26.5% at the same point in 2019-20. According to their figures, 90% of Partner Visas were approved between 5 to 29 months.

New Contributory Parent Visa Processing Time

The department estimates that new Contributory Parent Visa applications that meet the criteria to be queued will probably take at least 65 months to be finalized. Applications for new Parent and Aged Parent Visas that meet the criteria to be queued are likely to take at least 30 years to process.

According to Mr. Julian Hill, Labor is aware of the ongoing complaints regarding the Parent and Partner visas. These complaints are often about high fees and long waits. He acknowledges that the Labor Party needs to address these issues.
