Applicants under 45 years of age are eligible to apply for a 189 visa. As this is a points-test visa. Therefore, you must score at least 65 on the points test. It’s a minimum point requirement for PR in Australia. If you meet the eligibility criteria, Home Affairs will invite you to apply for visa 189. You can apply for a Skilled Independent Visa when you receive the invitation.

Visa 189 allows people to sponsor their relatives to apply for permanent residency in Australia. You can also apply for Australian Citizenship if you’re eligible for it. Skilled Nominated Visa 190

Visa 190 is for skilled international workers nominated by the Australian state/territory government. The nominated employees can work in Australia permanently. As visa 190 is a permanent visa. It allows you to live, work and study in Australia on a permanent basis. You must be under the age of 45 to apply for a Skilled Nominated Visa.


Skilled Nominated Visa requires you to score at least 65 in the points test. Ensure that your occupation is available on the relevant skilled occupation list. If you satisfy the points test and meet the visa criteria to be invited by Home Affairs. Skilled visa 190 costs AUD 4,115 for main applicants. However, there’ll be separate charges for each family member who applies with you.


Applicants under 45 years of age with at least 65 points in the points test are eligible to apply for visa 190.


Extra charges may apply if you’re under 18 and have less than functional English. You can pay this additional fee only when Home Affairs asks for it. This is called a second installment for visa 190. The Department of Home Affairs will ask for this fee only if it’s going to grant you visa 190.


You can be in or outside Australia while applying for a Skilled Nominated Visa. Though, you must not be in the immigration clearance when Home Affairs makes a decision on your application. If you’re in Australia while applying, you must hold a substantive visa or Bridging Visa A, Bridging Visa B, or Bridging Visa C. If you don’t have any of these visas, your application will not be valid for visa 190.


Applicants under 18 with less than functional English have to pay additional charges for visa 190. 


Skilled Regional Visa 491 (Provisional)

Skilled employees who want to work in designated regional Australia can apply for visa 491. It’s a short-term visa. The maximum period of time you can work in regional Australia is five years. However, you can apply for PR in Australia after 3 years from the date you’re granted visa 491.


The Australian state/territory government must nominate you for visa 491. Or you must be sponsored by an eligible relative in Australia. You’re required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect. The purpose of EOI is to get an estimate of your score on the points test.

For visa 491, your occupation must be on the relevant skilled list. A positive skills assessment is required for your occupation. You and your family member who’s applying with you must meet the health and character requirements.
